Brian Moore, the charity steward for Hardshaw Lodge No 8722 in the Province of West Lancashire, visited the St Helens Young Carers Centre to witness firsthand the excellent work done by Lorraine Pennington, the Operations Manager, and her team.

Young Carers team manager Kayleigh Owen showed Brian around the centre. When Brian asked Kayleigh what a young carer is, she explained: “A young carer is an individual aged 6 to 18 who provides regular or ongoing care and emotional support to a family member who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition, or misuses drugs or alcohol.
These young individuals often take on practical and emotional responsibilities that would typically be expected of adults. Here at the centre, we believe that every young carer should have the same opportunities as other children and young people of a similar age.”
Kayleigh expressed her gratitude, stating: “The invaluable support we receive from the St Helens Freemasons is truly appreciated. Their generosity and commitment have made a significant difference in our efforts to assist the young carers of St Helens.” To find out more about the St Helens Young Carers, click here.
