The first West Lancashire Masonic Clay Pigeon Shooting Society shoot of 2025 was held on a bright and fine morning at Ribble Bank Field Sports, Hesketh Lane, Tarleton, on the penultimate Sunday in March. The social event was supported by 11 society members along with 10 novices made up of 5 male and 5 female ‘have-a-goers’.

Chris Tittley, society secretary, explained that the ‘have-a-go’ initiative is to support the membership drive by reaching out to Freemasons across the Province who may be interested in this sport or the Country Pursuits Lodge of West Lancashire No 6615 generally. The society is grateful to the qualified shooting instructors, Lawrence Alston and Mick Woods, who ably shared their experience, shooting skills and enjoyment with the assembled participants, comprising of Freemasons, gentlemen and ladies.
It was pleasing that a charity raffle total of £45 combined with the proceeds from the ticket price helped to raise a splendid total of £340, which will be donated to the lodge’s chosen charities in due course. Chris informed the attendees that the next clay pigeon shooting event will be the annual War of Roses, which this year will take place at the Dolphin Shooting Ground on Saturday, 12 April, 2025. This will be an 80-bird sporting shoot at £25 per entrant and is to be followed by a hotpot priced at £10, to be served from within the Dolphin Inn, Longton, near Preston. Teams will be from the Province of West Lancashire versus our friends from the Provinces of West Yorkshire and the Provinces of Northern and East Yorkshire.
Members of the West Lancashire Masonic Clay Pigeon Shooting Society were pleased to welcome Ian Kennedy of the Ormskirk Group as a joining member. In conclusion, this ‘have-a-go’ event was thoroughly enjoyed by members and their guests. Equally, the organisers were delighted to receive extremely positive feedback from the participants. All those in attendance enjoyed their first experience of clay pigeon shooting, with the majority expressing a desire to attend our next ‘have-a-go’ shooting experience planned at Ribble Bank for Sunday, 7 September 2025.
