In a heart-warming display of compassion and community spirit, students from Urmston Grammar School organised a successful non-perishable food drive to support those in need within the local area. The collected items were generously donated to the Forget Me Not Trust, a charitable organisation, run by Ezra McGowan and supported by the Freemasons of the Trafford Group of Lodges and Chapters, dedicated to providing assistance to the homeless and individuals struggling with the rising cost of living.
The food drive initiative was spearheaded by the school’s Student Council, who recognised the growing challenges faced by many families and individuals due to the escalating economic pressures. With unwavering determination, the students rallied their peers and encouraged them to contribute non-perishable food items that could make a tangible difference in the lives of those experiencing hardship.
“We are incredibly grateful to the students for their selfless efforts in organising this food drive,” said Ezra McGowan. “Their commitment to supporting the local community and those in need is truly inspiring and it reflects the values of compassion and social responsibility that the school is known to instil in its students and that we hold dear within Freemasonry.”
The response from the Urmston Grammar School community was overwhelming, with students, parents and staff members generously donating a wide variety of non-perishable food items, including canned goods, dried foods and other essential pantry items. The collected donations were meticulously sorted and packaged by the Student Council members before being collected by the Forget Me Not Trust.
“We really are deeply grateful for the generous contributions from Urmston Grammar School,” commented Ezra. “These donations will make a significant impact in our efforts to provide much-needed assistance to those facing food insecurity and homelessness in our community.”
The Forget Me Not Trust will distribute the donated items through their network of food banks, shelters and outreach programmes, ensuring that they reach those who need them most. The organisation has expressed its sincere appreciation for the selfless actions of the Urmston Grammar School students, commending their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
This successful food drive not only provided tangible support to those in need but also served as a powerful example of the impact that can be achieved when individuals come together with a shared goal of promoting social welfare and community solidarity.
