Tyldesley Lodge No 2572 held another of their successful Brass Band Concerts, which was with a sell out concert by the world famous Fairey Brass Band at the Tyldesley Parish Church of St George. All the profits from each concert are donated to local charities, and once again the recipients of their donations were there to accept cheques on the night.
The master of Tyldesley Lodge and fellow brass band musician David Peacock was present, along with the lodge charity steward Derek Robinson, to give out the cheques to each recipient. St George’s Parish Church received £1,500, Merly’s Kitchen £1,000, Astley Old Age Pensioners £1,000, The Pelican Centre £1,000, 3rd Tyldesley Rainbows £500, and as a thank you for the free concert the GM Police Band performed for the lodge, a donation of £500 was given to the Northwest Police Benevolent Fund.
Also in attendance was the Mayor of Wigan Borough Debbie Parkinson who accepted a cheque for £1,000 for the Mayors’ Charity which this year is the Wigan and Leigh Hospice. That’s a total of £6,500, which when combined with the previous donations from other concerts, gives a grand total of £13,700 given to local charities and good causes since 2022.
These concerts are growing ever more popular and with another season of top bands booked for this year, Tyldesley Lodge members hope they will be able to donate more money to local charities and further promote the positive local association with Freemasonry.
