Ken Rouse of Eureka Lodge No 3763 and his wife Barbara, the current chairman of Bootle Ladies Group, both members of Bootle Action Group have been honoured with the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service, recognising Bootle Action Groups outstanding contributions to community wellbeing and environmental regeneration.

Bootle Action Group, a grassroots organisation dedicated to revitalising the Bootle area of Merseyside, has received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service the highest accolade a UK voluntary group can achieve. This award, equivalent to an MBE, celebrates exceptional work by volunteer-led groups that make a significant impact in their communities.
Founded to tackle urban decline and promote civic pride, Bootle Action Group has transformed neglected spaces into vibrant community assets. Through litter-picking campaigns, mural projects, green space restoration, and youth engagement initiatives, the group has fostered a renewed sense of ownership and optimism among residents.
The King’s Award, announced annually on His Majesty’s birthday, recognises the group’s tireless efforts to improve the local environment and strengthen social bonds. Representatives from Bootle Action Group will receive a certificate signed by the King and a domed glass crystal and may be invited to attend a Royal Garden Party in 2026.
