Norman Hilton, the Leigh Group Care Officer, organised what was a fabulous afternoon that was enjoyed by everyone who attend at Leigh Masonic Hall. The event was attended with over 40 widows, brethren and almoners.
Giving their valuable support to this event were; Leigh Group Chairman Jonathan Heaton and his wife Sarah, Paul Hook from Leigh Lodge No 4744, group publicity officer Anthony Roe from Makerfield Lodge No 2155 group charity steward David Gordon-Williams also from Makerfield Lodge, Len Hart from Lodge of Valour No 4322, group mentor Mick O` Brian Leigh No 4744 Lodge, Andrew Hardman from Marquis of Lorne Lodge No 1354 and Wigan Group Almoner Alan Johnson.
A three-course meal, with wine if required, was provided for the widows. Molly Thompsom, wife of the late Peter Thompson of Lilford Lodge No 3022, decided to have a glass of wine to finish off the meal along with other ladies. The entertainment was by the kind auspices of Rob Mason. His songs, which where a unique flavour of Lancashire life in times gone by, were well received by the audience, who engaged in audience participation and joined in with many of the songs. Comments received after the event from all those present were very favourable and the afternoon was very much appreciated.
This yearly event is a way of giving the respect and appreciation to those ladies who have given their support to those Masons who have since passed away.
