Garston Masonic Hall was the venue for the 46th Sportsman’s Dinner to held by the brethren of Lodge of Harmony No 220 arranged by Alan Cartwright. These events raise a considerable amount for different charities and is welcome revenue to support the hall.
The guest speaker for the evening was Sammy Lee, a football coach and former Liverpool midfielder and represented England 14 times. Sammy was also assistant manager at Bolton Wanders 2005 and became the manager in 2007. In 2020, Sammy was appointed assistant head coach to Sam Allardyce at West Bromwich Albion. Sammy was supported on the night by Sean Styles who presents his own show on Radio Merseyside, is one of the funniest comedians in the UK today and is also an after-dinner speaker.
Sammy brought with him three replica trophies and he also donated two football shirts which were auctioned and raised £405 for charity. In total, the Sportsman’s Dinner raised over £2,000 on the night, and along with two other dinners that have held, raised the total in 2024 to over £5,000 and all monies raised are for Masonic and Non-Masonic Charities. The evening is a great social event especially for guests who are considering joining Freemasonry.
Garston Masonic Hall catered for over 100 guests at the Sportsman’s Dinner, with catering and bar staff working well to ensure everyone had enjoyable evening. At the end of the evening, Alan thanked everyone for attending and supporting a fantastic evening.
