Stephen Fox, a past master from Silverdale Lodge No 6926, which is in the Lancaster and district Group, handed over a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the brethren of Silverdale Lodge to the “Fore” Get Me Not dementia café at Heysham Golf Club.

Dr Tim Barry, Captain of Heysham Golf Club, chose this as his charity and currently a mixed group of men and women together with their spouses or carers come to Heysham Golf Club once a month to socialise. It doesn’t matter whether they have previously played golf as everyone has a good time pitching and putting.
To date, the café has been personally funded by Tim and the donation will help to ensure the ongoing success of the café. At present there are only six other golf clubs in the UK who provide a dementia café. At present Heysham is the only one in the north of England.
Tim said that Heysham Golf Club will be offering support to the local community by organising a monthly “Fore” Get Me Not golf café. This is part of the ongoing commitment to support people living with dementia and for those who care for them. Appreciation must also be extended to those who make the café such a success.
Tim went on to say that it is gratifying to see the enjoyment on the faces of the participants who are not defined by their dementia illness, but just come along, play golf and socialise. Golf has a vital role to play in improving physical and mental wellbeing, not only for those with dementia, but also for their carers and the volunteers.
The café was featured on BBC North West Tonight in October 2025. “Fore” Get Me Not is a registered charity founded on 14 February 2025. Its aim is to help facilitate all golf clubs in the UK to provide a safe session for the people in their locality to play golf and support them to live well with dementia. Their goal is for the world golfing family to unite in the need to find a cure for dementia and to raise funds to support other initiatives in the fight against this mental condition.
