What do Provincial Grand Directors of Ceremonies do when they’re not conducting Masonic ritual or ensuring the smooth running of Provincial events? Apparently, they swap their wands for shotguns and have a blast doing it.
On a lovely Sunday, in July, six Provincial Grand Directors of Ceremonies made a return visit to Ribblebank Field Sports, Hesketh Bank, for another day of clay pigeon shooting with the West Lancashire Masonic Clay Pigeon Shooting Society (WLMCPSS). Their first outing had been such a success that a repeat was inevitable, and once again, the day proved a hit in every sense.
The weather was blisteringly hot, tempered only by a gentle breeze drifting in from the River Ribble. Spirits were high as the group gathered under the expert guidance of Lawrence Alston, CPSA Senior Coach, Institute of Clay Shooting Instructors member and WLMCPSS Treasurer.
Each Mason tackled 25 targets across three stands, receiving coaching and encouragement throughout. The results spoke for themselves, every participant improved on their previous scores, leaving with smiles as broad as the Lancashire horizon.
Grateful thanks go to John Bruffell, whose organisational skills ensured the day ran seamlessly, and to Lawrence Alston, whose calm expertise and good humour made the experience both educational and entertaining. The ProvGDC proved that precision and poise aren’t limited to the lodge room, they translate beautifully to the shooting ground.
