On a beautiful weekend in May, members of the Chorley and Leyland Masonic Research Society, better known as ‘Perfect Points’, took a coach trip to London to visit Freemasons’ Hall and enjoy some sightseeing in the capital while accompanied by their wives. The weekend was organised with the assistance of David Ogden Coach Tours and included a two-night stay at the superb Clarendon Hotel in Blackheath.

After meeting up at Brookfield Masonic Hall in Westhoughton, they headed down to London on a luxury coach arriving late afternoon, leaving plenty of time for exploring Blackheath’s bars and restaurants. After breakfast the following morning, the group boarded the coach and headed into central London with the first stop being Freemasons’ Hall on Great Queen Street. A guided tour had been arranged that began in the Masonic Museum before continuing into the crown jewel and primary ceremonial space appropriately referred to as the Grand Temple. This was the first visit for most of the group and they were left in awe at the beauty and grandeur of the temple, with many commenting on the sheer vibrancy of the decoration and artwork.

Following the tour, the group had free time in London with many finding themselves in one of the nearby pubs watching the FA Cup Final, trying not to cheer on Manchester City while surrounded by Chelsea fans! Next up was an evening on a Thames River cruise with prosecco and canapes and live entertainment. This proved to be a particularly upbeat affair as they were joined by a group on a hen night and with the music and singing and a few glasses of bubbly much fun was had by all before returning to The Clarendon Hotel for a nightcap.
Sunday morning began with another sumptuous buffet breakfast before taking the coach into Westminster for a few hours of sightseeing. The group dispersed in different directions with some riding the London Eye while others went to see the Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square before meeting back at the coach for the journey back to Brookfield Masonic Hall.

Even though quite tired on their return they still had time to thank the organisers and everyone agreed that it had been a fantastic trip with which to involve the wives and partners in what turned out to be wonderful social event.
Membership of Perfect Points is open to all master Masons wishing to advance their knowledge of Freemasonry with an annual membership fee of only £5. Their next meeting, which includes a guest lecture and supper, will be held at Brookfield Hall, Westhoughton, in October.
