This year, the Chorley and Leyland Group hosted a ‘broken column’ event. This particular event is certainly one that holds a special place in the hearts of Freemasons. This is, of course, because we invite the partners of all fallen Freemasons. Now, while this may sound like a sad moment, it is actually quite the opposite.

As partners of a Freemason, it is part of a lodge’s duties to make sure that they are looked after, even after death. This event had 64 people in attendance and while each and every one of them may have suffered through a loss, they will be there for each other as all partners get to know each other and this event is proof that Freemasonry does not stop after death.
Through the combined effort of those at Chorley Masonic Hall, Mary Noblet and the team brought together this amazing culmination of people who organised the event in the hope that all who attended would enjoy themselves, which they obviously did.
On attending, everyone was met with a smile from Maria Schofield at the entrance, where she would direct everyone to their seat, where Anne Wilson was ready to pour either coffee or tea. The hall does have access to a fully stocked bar where a number of people could get something stronger if needed; however, bottles of buck’s fizz were strategically placed so they could be served at the proper moment.

Whilst the event was organised around Christmas, the team made sure there was a hamper for everyone to take home, which was hand-wrapped by Mary and her husband, Harry. Every single one had mince pies, crackers, cakes, jam, and of course, a Christmas pudding. No doubt, the hamper would last them until the end of Christmas.
When the food was ready, it started to make its way round the tables. The afternoon tea that everyone was looking forward to surely did not disappoint. Full of handmade sandwiches, cakes, scones with jam and cream, with warm pies and sausage rolls.
The Chorley and Leyland Group will continue to organise these events as everyone who attends does indeed enjoy themselves.
