On a damp and drizzly spring Saturday afternoon, a group of hardy members and guests turned out to support the Ormskirk and Bootle Group Crown Green Bowls social. Among this group of players included the group vice chairman Malcolm Sandywell and his wife Hilary.

Due to the constant threat of heavy rain showers, it was decided to dispense with any formal competition and to enjoy an afternoon of fun social bowling. All but two of the participants had bowled before and so after the seasoned bowlers had started their game, Ian Tupling, the group’s Crown Green Bowls Representative, gave some prior instruction on basic techniques to the bowls initiates, before the fun bowling began. After a good period of relaxed bowling, nature decided to intervene and so due to heavy showers the activities had to be curtailed.
Ian thanked all of the participants for supporting the event and asked that they spread the word and encourage other lodge members and their friends to come and have a go in 2027. Malcolm added his thanks to all of the participants and to Ian Tupling for organising the event.
Two more Crown Green Bowls events in the group have been arranged. The first is the Rufford Lodge No 7217 Crown Green Bowls Event on 27June 2026. For details, contact Brian Southworth at briansouthworth2@btinternet.com. The second event is the Aughton Lodge No 7996 Crown Green Bowls Social and Buffet on 4 July 2026. For details of this event, contact James Carrie on or Ian Tupling on. Further information on these two events will be forthcoming.
