The WM, Michael O`Neill, welcomed the brethren and visitors to the Makerfield Lodge No 2155 Olde English Night. The lodge performed a full open and close in all three degrees as an appreciation to the guests, who as usual were the Marquis of Lorne Lodge No 1354, they turned up in abundance to support the lodge, this is always reciprocated when they have their Olde English Night themselves.
The lodge has traditionally held this olde English meeting as far as records began. Phil Kearns junior warden and David Banks inner guard assisted at the festive board as did Alex Ryley of Makerfield Lodge who made certain that the envelopes were collected that had the money for the raffle prizes.
Phil was dressed as Friar Tuck and David was dressed as Robin Hood in the olde dress of the tradition. The excellent food starting with traditional old English pea and ham soup, followed by black pudding with mustard, to finish was steak, vegetables and large cut chips.
Phil was the fines master and David made sure they paid their fines. The total fines and money raised in the evening was £267, that created a huge amount of cheer and laughter. The raffle prizes where many with plenty to give away causing much of the usual shouting and booing as to who got what, all in all the most enjoyable evening for all.
Lauren must not be forgotten, as she kept many brethren watered with fine beer and wines. Lauren is the manager of the bar and organiser of other events at Leigh Masonic Hall.
