The North Fylde Group Ball was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Blackpool, where the principal guest of honour was Duncan Smith, accompanied by his good lady wife, Karen. Duncan needs little introduction, having been a shining light within the Masonic circle for many years, having given selfless dedication to the Craft.

The principal party were led into the ballroom to rapturous applause before taking their seats at the top table. WM of Royal Oak Lodge No 5919 Alex Tomlinson, served as director of ceremonies for the evening and led the ceremonial procession with impeccable composure and quiet authority. North Fylde Group Chairman John Cross then addressed Duncan, offering an insight into his life and career before Freemasonry.
He explained the field in which Duncan earned his doctorate; although it is fair to say that few in the room fully grasped the technicalities, everyone understood one thing, clearly, Duncan is, without doubt, very clever. John went on to speak about Duncan’s Masonic journey and the many positions and promotions he has held over the years, culminating in the illustrious rank of Assistant Provincial Grand Master. It is a position befitting a man who has given so much to the Craft through many years of loyal and dedicated service.
The meal was served with the efficiency and warmth for which the Sheraton Hotel staff are well known for. Guests enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere, with conversation flowing easily around the room as old friends caught up and new acquaintances were made. The service was attentive throughout, ensuring everyone could simply sit back and enjoy the evening.

Following the meal, the formal speeches began. Principal guest Duncan Smith, responded with his usual blend of sincerity and gentle humour, expressing his gratitude for the welcome he and Karen had received. He spoke warmly about the strength of the North Fylde Group and the dedication of its members, acknowledging the hard work that goes into organising events of this scale.
With the formalities concluded, the dance floor opened and the DJ soon had guests on their feet. From classic favourites to more modern tunes, the music kept the room lively well into the evening. Laughter, conversation and the occasional enthusiastic dance move created a wonderful atmosphere.
A raffle was held during the interval, with an impressive array of prizes generously donated by members and supporters. The raffle raised a total of £526 for good causes, a testament to the goodwill and generosity of everyone present. The funds will support local charities within the community, continuing the group’s long-standing commitment to helping others.
As the evening drew to a close, there was a clear sense that this year’s North Fylde Group Ball had been a great success. The combination of good company, excellent food, heartfelt speeches and lively entertainment made it a night to remember. The North Fylde Group once again demonstrated the spirit of fellowship and charity that lies at the heart of Freemasonry and guests departed already looking forward to next year’s event.
