Tyldesley Lodge No 2572 recently initiated a new candidate, John Goodenough, into the fold, John was proposed by lodge director of ceremonies Barrie Hughes on the night. Barrie has been speaking to John about joining Masonry for quite some time, and as his neighbour, John seemed keen to get involved in everything that the lodge and Masonry adhere to.

John started attending the monthly band concerts that are organised by the lodge which made him gain interest even more. After bringing him into the lodge, the WM David Peacock initiated him with ease and class.
The junior deacon was John Harrison and this was John’s first time on the floor with a candidate and he coped with ease and confidence.
With it being Barrie’s candidate, he wanted to make sure that a great ceremony was had, which everyone could certainly tell by the attendance at the practice meetings that he had arranged. During the ceremony John conducted the candidate to the junior warden Andrew McVee, where Andrew, occupying the position for the first time as junior warden, delivered the first degree working tools and the first degree charge in an outstanding manner. It was certainly noted by everyone who attended.
Everyone at the lodge is sure that the candidate will remember his initiation for a long time and that he will learn and understand what makes the values and traditions of the lodge so great.
After the ceremony, the evening continued at the festive board. Where a fine meal was enjoyed and drinks flowed throughout the night thanks to the team at Brookfield Hall. Towards the end, everyone was pleasantly surprised by the excellent rendition of the visitor’s song by Andrew, again, his first time singing the song at the festive board.
After the night ended, the candidate was asked if he enjoyed it and he replied: “Of course.”
