At Southport Masonic Hall, an exceptional evening was held at North Meols Chapter No 5828, with not just two candidates being exalted, but another joining member being admitted and a further four being balloted for.
Companions of North Meols Chapter have long been known for their enthusiastic welcome and this is well evidenced by the size of the chapter with a mammoth 54 members on the summons for the evening. The event was honoured by the presence of Deputy Grand Superintendent Chris Butterfield and Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Malcolm Alexander, who made the special trip down to enjoy the festivities and provide Provincial recognition of the occasion, as well as the Southport Group Chairman Phil Stock and deputy group chairman Brian Griffiths.
The chapter was first opened by first principal John McGrady who immediately welcomed Chris by offering him the sceptre in the proper manner. This having been politely declined, John proceeded to conduct the business of the evening. This included welcoming new joining member Jackson Headings to the chapter, who thanked the companions for their warm welcome and said how much he was looking forward to participating in the years to come. As a final step, the chapter then balloted on four new members, including the new manager of Southport Masonic Hall, resulting in a total of five new or soon-to-be members before the exaltation had even begun.
John then moved the business on to the main event of the evening, the double exaltation of Les Gilston and David Duffy. In front of such a large crowd it can be said John rose to the occasion and delivered a superb piece of ritual, ably assisted by the renowned skills of Paul Hardman providing the narrations. Malcom Alexander then rose on behalf of the Provincial guests to applaud the quality of the ceremony and welcome Les and David into the Royal Arch.
The evening then proceeded to the festive board where many a song was sung and toasts were made. The future remains bright for this exceptional chapter, which continues to grow, with the four candidates balloted on the night soon to join as well.
