In a fine example of Masonic generosity and community spirit, the Mersey Valley Group has made a charitable donation of £250 to the West Lancashire section of The Masonic Fishing Charity (MTSFC). The donation, part of the funds raised from last year’s Group Charity Ball, will go towards supporting the charity’s inspiring work in bringing joy, confidence and connection to individuals with special needs and disabilities through the simple pleasure of fishing.

The Masonic Fishing Charity, known affectionately as ‘MTSFC’, organises fishing events across the country, offering participants an opportunity to enjoy a day by the water, learn new skills and engage in meaningful social interaction. For many, these experiences are life-changing, providing not just recreation, but also friendship, inclusion and a sense of achievement.
Each fishing day typically costs between £600 and £900, which covers the cost of hiring the fishery/lake, food and drink for the children and often for the volunteers and helpers, safety equipment (hats and glasses), awards and framed certificates.
A major part of the fishing charity’s funding comes from lodges or chapters within our Province who will often make pledges or donations to support events, or sponsor particular schools or groups to attend. The Mersey Valley Group’s contribution reflects the enduring Masonic values of charity, compassion and community involvement. Through this donation, the group continues its tradition of supporting causes that make a genuine difference to people’s lives.
Speaking about the donation, Group Chairman David Atkinson expressed his appreciation for the tireless efforts of volunteers who make the MTSFC events possible, emphasising that such initiatives highlight the best of Freemasonry; men and women working together to improve lives, one good deed at a time.
As the Mersey Valley Group looks ahead to another year of fellowship and fundraising, this contribution stands as a reminder that even modest donations, when given with sincerity, can create ripples of happiness and hope far beyond their monetary value.
