Brethren of Marquis of Lorne Lodge No 1354 in the Leigh Group held their annual traditional event, the visiting lodge on this occasion was Makerfield Lodge No 2155, who always decided that on these occasions that they reciprocate the host lodge as return visiting.
On this particular occasion, Marquis of Lorne Lodge conducted a first degree ceremony, the new candidate was William Eatock. WM Glynn Jones asked Raymond Unsworth would he please assist him with the ceremony of which he was happy to do so. The ceremony was done in a very efficient manner with all members of the lodge forming a circle to do the first degree charge of initiation.
With the ceremony complete, the lodge was closed in peace and harmony which enabled for a swift exit to get to the festivities of the Olde English Night event, which was also a White Table event with a number of non-Masons present.
The ticket price was as usual £5, which goes a long way to helping get a higher amount for those specific charities. The prizes and raffles went a long way towards getting the amount of £602 for those charitable causes. There was much laughter and hullabaloo for those who were fined for not eating black pudding, looking at their phone and other manner of obscure reasons even being put into the stocks as they did in ancient times.
Tony Bent made a wonderful speech to all present, suggesting to those non-Masons this is only a small part of what Freemasons do and it may be an opportunity to make the enquiry about Masonic membership. All in all, a night to remember.
