Companions of Baldwin Chapter No 1398 met at Dalton-in-Furness Masonic Hall and on a cold November night, with approximately 40 companions (having managed to find a parking space, which is no mean feat) convened for the installation convocation.

First principal David Grove opened the chapter and dispatched the usual business, ably assisted by second principal John Porter and third principal Steven McKellar. The director of ceremonies, Darren Stainton and assistant director of ceremonies, John Browne, kept a watchful eye on proceedings.
Upon entering the chapter and being welcomed, principal guest, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals, John Robbie Porter, remarked that despite the cold weather, all the visitors had received a warm welcome. John Robbie was accompanied by Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Gary Rogerson, Past Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals David Grainger and Barrie Crossley. Also accompanied by grand officers Rowley Saunders, Allan Jones and Peter Schofield. Acting Provincial grand officers; John Topping, Alastair Davidson, John Pitches, Derek Lewthwaite, Neil Hartley and Gordon Evans. Also present were executive officers of the Furness and South Lakeland Group, vice chairman Harry Chatfield and group secretary Tony Jackson.
The next business was to install the three principal elects, John Porter, Steven McKellar and Terry Pearson. Each principal installed his successor with dignity, humility and sincerity. There were scripture readings from companions Martin McFall, Steven Forster, and Chris Woodburn. The robe addresses were given by Malcolm Brown, David Sear and Bill Coates. Vice Chairman of the Furness and South Lakeland Group, Harry Chatfield, gave the address to the three principals, Brian Davey, a stalwart of Baldwin Chapter, gave the address to companions in office and John Robbie Porter gave the address to the companions of the chapter.

At the conclusion of the installation ceremony, John Robbie brought the greetings of the Grand Superintendent, Mark Matthews. John Porter presented John Robbie with a £500 cheque for the WLFC, for which he gave thanks to the companions of the chapter.
At the first rising, John Robbie had the pleasant duty of presenting companion Elliott Haughin with his Grand Chapter Certificate. When this was done, Gary Rogerson brought greetings from Supreme Grand Chapter. Following the closure of the chapter, the companions retired downstairs for an enjoyable festive board. An excellent and affirmative evening of Royal Arch Freemasonry.
