The chapter was opened at 6pm prompt by first principal David Maher and following the ordinary business of the chapter, including ballots for membership and an honorary membership, both of which proved favourable, the director of ceremonies David Sullivan and assistant director of ceremonies Mike Thompson retired to form the procession of the grand and Provincial grand officers.
On his return, David announced that Jonathan Heaton, the representative of the Grand Superintendent Mark Matthews, accompanied by Ormskirk and Bootle Group Chairman Graham Chambers and vice chairman Stephen Dunn, awaited without and sought admission. Upon entering, mutual greetings were exchanged with the three principals and the chapter then continued with the installation.
Simon Gray remained as third principal, Alan Parkinson was elevated from second to first principal and Mike Thompson was installed as second principal. The ceremony was conducted with sincerity and skill from a long-experienced team, most of whom remained in their former offices for the coming year. However, Russel Skidmore also assisted the chapter by acting as assistant director of ceremonies, whilst also continuing as scribe Ezra. John Hannah became janitor and Ron Smith became second sojourner.
The installation being ended, the principal guest Jonathan Heaton then rose to congratulate the three principals, officers and the chapter on their successful installation which brought together many joining members from the former Bootle Chapter No 1473 which had surrendered its warrant in 2022. Jonathan went on to bring the warm regards of both himself and Mark Matthews to Fermor Hesketh Chapter with hopes that all companions continue to enjoy their Freemasonry for the foreseeable future.
First principal Alan Parkinson then called on all to honour the charities through the collection of alms which raised £42 towards the chapter’s future charitable giving. Following the first rising, David Sullivan and Russell Skidmore rose to form the recession of grand officers and guests. Following the completion of chapter business, all congregated at the festive board.
In response to the toast to grand officers, Jonathan rose and remarked upon the cohesiveness and camaraderie he observed in the chapter with its lively conversation and laughter he could see a great and continued enjoyment of the memberships experience of Freemasonry which he saw as a great importance to recruitment and retention. To this end, Jonathan spoke of the need to grow activities within chapters, possibly through white table events for recently raised master Masons, or further encouragement within the light blue clubs and informative lecture presentations to lodges.
Jonathan then went on the ask that we should try to be aware of the difficulties of our fellow companions or their dependents and informed those present that monies were available to anyone in financial, medical or emotional need. He then gave thanks for himself and Graham Chambers for the toast and the manner in which it was received.
David Maher then, as past first principal, gave a toast to the three principles of the chapter wishing them all a very enjoyable year in office. The evening coming to an end, the janitors toast was given and all departed in harmony and peace.
