Local Furness Freemasons have made personal donations to their lodges to help Barrow Foodbank Group achieve its goals. Provincial Grand Master Mark Matthews requested support for this year’s foodbank appeal from the Furness and South Lakeland Group, following the previous year’s success.
This will assist the invaluable work undertaken by all our local foodbanks, in what is recognised to be a time of year when demand increases heavily and their resources are severely stretched, coupled with the precarious economic situation in which the country finds itself.
This year, the Furness and South Lakeland Group focused primarily on asking for monetary donations, enabling them to purchase more of the items they require thus being able to target their own requirements.
The Province of West Lancashire kick-started the appeal, with an opening donation to the group of £2,400, whilst the members of the local lodges donated a further £1,390 to make an appeal total of £3790. In addition, £482 was raised and donated directly by Ulverston Lodge No 7872 bringing the grand total to £4,272.
Furness and South Lakeland Group Chairman Alan Pattinson and Furness and South Lakeland Group Charity Steward Paul Ackred visited the Barrow HQ of the organisation to pass the donation on to Project Manager Matt Burden.
