Southport Masons have been a long-time supporter of the local foodbanks, with a number of Masons dedicating significant amounts of their time to the project. Such hard-working Masons as Eddie Thompson have been working for years alongside local organisations in and near to Southport, to provide much needed resources to those in distress.
At a visit to a community centre, Eddie was joined once again by the Southport Group Chairman Phil Stock, a long-time champion of charitable endeavours and a bridge between the hard work that takes place locally and the wider Province.
The visit in question was to Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Centre, to provide donations to their food cupboard (an outdoor foodbank). The food cupboard is an initiative that Southport Masons have been supporting for some time, working alongside the valuable assistance of the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity.
During a previous foodbank delivery, the group chairman Phil Stock had been asked by the staff if the group would consider supporting Period Poverty, something that impacts countless women across our area. Phil never forgets those in need and always makes sure that specific as well as general needs are allowed for as part of the big picture. As a result, donations to Period Poverty, such as vouchers, are now part of the wider program alongside the more traditional food deliveries.
Charity is about individuals as much as groups, and the Masons of Southport continue to listen first and put compassion at the heart of what they do. Thanks to the efforts Eddie, Phil and many more Southport Masons, that empathy continues to make a difference.
