In January 2026, the brethren of Fermor Lodge No 1313 gathered for an extra special emergency meeting which took place at Southport Masonic Hall. The purpose was one of the most significant in any lodge’s calendar, the initiation of a new member into the Craft.

Once the brethren were assembled, the lodge was duly opened by the master of the lodge Damon Noone Jr. After the formal reading of the dispensation from Provincial Grand Lodge, a wonderful display of Masonic brotherhood took place. The WM Damon then called upon Michael Clarke to assist him by occupying the chair of King Solomon for the main portion of the ceremony which Michael humbly accepted.
A report was made at the door, and the deacons were dispatched to admit the candidate, Matthew Halsall. The ceremony was marked by excellence in ritual and floorwork, Matthew was ably led by the junior deacon, Jake Higham, who guided the candidate throughout the lodge with perfect ease and precision. Following the ceremony, the newly made brother was treated to a brilliant rendition of the Ancient Charge by the junior warden, Alan Davies Jr. In a standout moment of the evening, fellow raft Callum Clark presented a full explanation of the working tools of the first degree, performing them with remarkable clarity.
After a brief period outside the lodge, brother Matthew was readmitted, and the traditional collection for good causes was made. Eager to conclude the evening’s formal duties, Mike Clarke joyfully returned the chair to the WM, who closed the lodge in peace and harmony.
The celebrations continued at the festive board, where the brethren enjoyed a warm atmosphere of camaraderie. The evening was further enhanced by the presence of guest organist Hugh Mett, whose wonderful music accompanied the various traditional toasts.
In his first response as a Freemason, Matthew Halsall thanked the brethren for their warm welcome, expressing his excitement to begin his journey in Freemasonry and his pride in becoming a member of Fermor Lodge.
Fermor Lodge No 1313 will be hosting a Gentlemen to Dine event at their next meeting on Wednesday 4 February 2026. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in the Craft to meet the members and experience the atmosphere of the festive board.
