Wednesday, 3 December, marked a truly exceptional and historic evening for Fermor Lodge No 1313, as they successfully initiated their newest member, Robert Fenlon, into the ancient mysteries of Freemasonry.

Robert decided to join Freemasonry after being invited and attending many social events organised by Southport Group Light Blue Society. With an impressive turnout of nearly 50 members and guests, the meeting set a recent record for attendance, reflecting the vibrant health and enthusiasm of the lodge.
The lodge was honoured to receive Assistant Provincial Grand Master David Thomas as their principal guest for the evening. Following the opening of the lodge by WM Damon Noone Snr, David was duly offered the gavel of the lodge which he promptly returned, allowing the superb ceremony to proceed.
The ceremony of initiation was delivered with the precision and expertise for which Fermor Lodge is renowned. Damon was ably assisted in part by Mike Clarke, who delivered the main portion of the ceremony in his usual ‘word perfect’ manner, captivating all present.
The new candidate Robert was expertly guided around the lodge by Jake Higham, who performed his duties perfectly. Following the initiation, Robert was treated to an outstanding explanation of the working tools by one of the lodge’s newest brethren, Callum Clark and a word perfect rendition of the first degree charge was delivered by junior warden, Alan Davies Jr.
During a brief retirement of the candidate, David took the opportunity to present two highly regarded Grand Lodge Certificates to Alan Davies Jr. and Roy Carnall, marking a special and memorable moment for both recipients.

Upon re-admittance of Robert, the lodge proceeded towards closing with Neil Walsh proposed a donation of £100 to the Southport Soup Kitchen, which was enthusiastically seconded. The Soup Kitchen provides a vital lifeline of hot meals and information three days a week to those in need in the centre of Southport.
Once the lodge was formally closed, the brethren proceeded to the festive board, where light music filled the background and everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal. The usual Masonic toasts were raised and celebrated in the warm and special way that only Fermor Lodge can provide.
This particular night has been hailed as one of the busiest and best for Fermor Lodge in a long time. It was made even more special by the remarkable fact that nearly all officers were light blue Masons, showcasing the strength and commitment of the lodge’s younger generation.
The lodge charity steward later informed the brethren that over £400 was raised on the night, a true testament to the charitable nature and generosity of the members. The evening finished on a high note following a heartfelt rendition of the tyler’s toast.

Fermor Lodge is continuing its success with a special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 7 January 2026, to initiate yet another new candidate.
