And dominate it they did, Alan Davies Snr winning the Walwork Cup with a great score of 40 points, and Alan Davies Jnr winning the Harry Doughty Scratch Trophy, needless to say they won the team event for Fermor Lodge No 1313 by a short head. The golf day was held at Southport Old Links Golf Club and was attended by over t20 brethren. The golf day was organised by Trevor Vearncombe, who worked his socks off to make it a very memorable day. The weather was mixed, that is sunshine and showers, but this did not discourage everyone as all enjoyed the golf.
To make it an even more memorable day, the golfers were honoured by the presence of Deputy Provincial Grand Master Frank Umbers who came along and presented the prizes. Before the prize giving everyone enjoyed an excellent meal of soup, roast beef and veg finished off with an apple sweet.
After the meal, the captain of the Old Links Golf Club spoke briefly and said how nice it was to see everyone present and hoped that they had enjoyed the course which it was generally agreed to be a good test of golf. John Deal, chairman of the golf tournament, welcomed everyone and handed over to Trevor Vearncombe to read out the names of the prize winners.
The lucky winners were presented with their prizes by Frank Umbers as follows; Alan Davies Snr won the Walwork Trophy. Alan Davies Jnr won the Harry Doughty Trophy. The David Foulds Trophy for chapter Masons was won by Mark Barton. The Mark Masons Trophy was won by Trevor Vearncombe, who deserved something from the day. Mike Mullen won the Turner Trophy for over 70s and Dave Quillien won the visitor’s prize.
There was a raffle and the prizes were then given out much to the delight of the winners. It’s a shame Trevor couldn’t get more to play in the competition considering the number of Masons who play golf. Trevor hopes to see a lot more playing next year, still those who played had a wonderful day.
