Garston Masonic Hall near Liverpool was the venue for the installation convocation of Royal George Chapter No 4119. The chapter was opened in due form by first principal Alan Jenkins, who was supported by his colleagues and the domestic business of the chapter was swiftly completed.

Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies, Robb Fitzsimmons, entered the chapter room and announced that Deputy Grand Superintendent David Barr demanded admission. David and his entourage processed into the chapter room, accompanied by Mersey Valley Group Chairman, David Atkinson, grand officers and acting Provincial grand officers.
First principal Alan Jenkins formally welcomed David to Royal George Chapter and offered him the first principal’s sceptre which David returned, replying that this is his first visit to Garston and it is always a pleasure to receive a sceptre, but on this occasion, David returned it.

The installation followed under the guidance of chapter director of ceremonies Simon Weatherup. Michael Moore was installed into the first principal’s chair and Ian Thompson was installed into the second principal’s chair. Both ceremonies were performed by Barry Elman. The scriptures were read by David Newland, the scarlet robe address was delivered by Philip Brown and the purple robe address was delivered by David Boyes who also completed the installation ceremony with the address to the newly installed principals. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ray Sephton was unable to attend but will be installed as third principal at the next meeting.
On completion of the installation ceremony, David rose and congratulated the principals on being installed into their respective chairs and he also brought the greetings of Grand Superintendent Mark Matthews. David also congratulated everyone involved in the ceremony for their participation. Michael presented David with a cheque for £100 for the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity which was greatly received.
The companions retired to the festive board and David, in response to the toast to his health, brought his own congratulations on the installation. David informed the companions of forthcoming dates: Provincial Grand Chapter on 23 September 2026 and 15 September 2027, Provincial Grand Lodge on 12 May 2027, the Bicentenary meeting on 27 November 2026, all to be held at the Winter Gardens Blackpool and on 5 March 2027 the Grand Ball and Banquet at Bolton.

David mentioned that a new West Lancashire Provincial tie is now on sale, raising funds for the 2032 Festival. David also talked about the Membership Challenge and the Digital Marketing Campaign with emphasis on family and friends joining Freemasonry, also saying that it is important to retain members who have left for whatever reasons.
