Derek Hart began his Masonic journey on Thursday, 11 September 1975, when he was initiated into St Oswald Lodge No 5170 in Warrington. Over the years, his dedication and commitment to the Craft were evident, finally becoming the master of St Oswald Lodge in 1996.

His involvement in Freemasonry has been extensive. Derek is a proud member of the Mersey Valley Lodge of Installed Masters No 9057 and holds honorary membership in both Academy Lodge No 9382 and Travellers Chapter No 4679, reflecting the respect and esteem in which he is held by his fellow brethren.
In December 2025, Derek celebrated this extraordinary milestone, 50 years in Freemasonry. The occasion was marked in a warm and informal setting at the home of his close friend, Colin Boardman. Joining him for this special afternoon was Assistant Provincial Grand Master Stuart Boyd, and the Warrington Group Chairman John Tyrer.
The celebration was a relaxed affair, just as Derek wished. Over a delightful afternoon tea, complete with delicious cakes kindly provided by Stuart Boyd, the brethren shared stories and laughter. During the gathering, Derek was presented with his 50th anniversary certificate, a moment that symbolised half a century of loyalty, service, and fellowship within the Craft.
This event had been postponed from an earlier date due to Derek’s ill health and a brief hospital stay, making the day even more meaningful. Derek expressed his happiness and gratitude for the intimate nature of the celebration, and both Assistant Provincial Grand Master Stuart Boyd and the group chairman John Tyrer were honoured to be part of such a significant occasion.
It was a fitting tribute to a Freemason whose life exemplifies dedication and brotherhood, a day filled with warmth, friendship and pride in a remarkable achievement.
