Family and friends gathered at Garston Masonic Hall on Island Road, Liverpool, along with the brethren and WM Kevin Flynn from Harmony Lodge No 220 for an informal event to celebrate 50 years in Freemasonry for David Jones. Principal guest for the evening was Assistant Provincial Grand Master John Murphy. There were other visitors to the event with brethren from other lodges attending due to David acting as tyler in other lodges.

The celebration took place in the lounge of the hall and John requested that David be placed on a convenient place in the lounge for the event. David was born in June 1933, the second eldest of 4 brothers to their parents David and Ethel and the family lived in North Hill Street, Liverpool 8. Along with his brothers and cousins he was evacuated to Denbigh, North Wales, were all his friends joined him from Upper Park Street School. His senior school was Wellington Road Secondary Modern and he left school at 15.
David’s first job was at Hunt and Son wood workers and makers of playground equipment. David worked there in an administrator role for three and half years. His second job was at Rushworth and Draper and then T J Hughes, Liverpool, it was in this job he learnt his demonstrating skills and really excelled into the role.
This evening may be a ‘This Is Your Life’ about David, but what may not be known is that David actually appeared on the television version of ‘This Is Your Life’ with Eamon Andrews as the host. David employed Faith Brown as a demonstrator in Lewis’s department store many years ago.
David became a travelling demonstrator working in Selfridges in London and other establishments in 1956. Whilst working at Selfridges, he met Joan who was a cashier there and they were married in St Paul’s in Devonshire Road’ Liverpool. They went on to have three children; Lesley, David and Gerry, sadly he lost his wife Joan 27years ago.
David continued to demonstrate in departmental stores and marketplaces, one such marketplace was in Garston directly opposite the hall and a regular visitor was Sandra Kelly in her nurse uniform they have now been together since 1987.
David Jones was initiated into Royal George Lodge No 4119 in May 1976 he became WM in 1988 and again in 2002. With the amalgamation of two other lodges, Mossley Hill Lodge No 7963 and empire Lodge No 3257, the lodge became Trinity Lodge No 3257, and he became WM of Trinity Lodge in 2022. David was promoted to PPJGD followed by a further promotion to Past Provincial Deputy Grand Superintendent of Works.
The WM Kevin Flynn and all the members of the Lodge of Harmony thanked David, who is valued member of the lodge and for the way he has supported the lodge in every way. This was a well-attended event which was arranged by Mal Yates, Garston Masonic Hall Chairman, for the celebration of David’s 50 years in Freemasonry with an attendance of 45, which also included family and friends and a buffet was provided.
