Over 40 diners met at Rowley Court, Lancaster for a Country Pursuits Lodge of West Lancashire No 6615 Christmas Social, to mark the final fund-raising event for WM Ian Heyes, prior to the forthcoming January 2025 installation at The Palace, St Annes-on-Sea.
A delightful, traditional Christmas menu was served, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In front of the stage was a very well stocked raffle prize table for all to see. Towards the end of the meal a ‘passing the parcel’ game was enjoyed around the tables, with Christmas socks and Terry’s chocolate oranges being some of the parcel prizes.
Raffle tickets sales were efficiently managed by treasurer Andy McClements and charity steward Richard Dennison, who was delighted that this part of the fundraising raised £360. At the end of the raffle, a bottle of Chevas single malt whisky was generously donated by Mike Casey, that added £170 to the growing charity-pot, through a £1 per number Chorley swindle, expertly managed by Richard.
Musical entertainment provided the evening’s high point, with guitarists and vocalists Nigel Parrish and Charlie Holl from the Duke of Lancaster Lodge No 1353 captivating the audience. Their renditions of popular hits from artists like John Denver, The Beatles and Ralph McTell, had everyone singing along, filling the room with festive cheer.
The festivities took a magical turn when Father Christmas made a surprise appearance, delighting attendees with sweets and small gifts, while spreading Christmas joy.
As the singing and musical accompaniment came to an end, WM Ian Heyes addressed the diners and thanked everyone for their generosity in supporting the evening’s fund-raising so well. He commended the catering staff, bar staff and lodge members who had worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success.
Ian went on and praised the lodge secretary for his outstanding efforts in organising the evening. On behalf of himself and his wife Diane, he concluded by extending warm wishes to everyone for the festive season.
The Country Pursuits Lodge of West Lancashire Christmas Social raised an impressive total of £637.50, which included the proceeds of the charity plate in lodge. A fitting finale to a year of dedication and generosity.
