It’s a busy year for Carnarvon Lodge No 2376, both inside and outside of the lodge room. After a successful white table event in January, their master of the lodge Chris Upton, organised another social event, this time to the Liverpool Beer Festival.
Having met at Tesco Café in Leyland for a hearty breakfast, 30 gentlemen boarded the coach to take them to Liverpool. Nine members of Carnarvon Lodge were joined by brethren from other lodges, including Rick Lockwood, WM of Eccleston Lodge No 7754, Provincial Grand Membership Officer Neil Ward and Mark Humphrey Provincial Senior Grand Warden designate. They were also joined by a fantastic number of 16 non-Masonic guests.
Arriving at Liverpool’s Catholic Cathedral, the party made their way down a series of stone steps and into the Lutyens Crypt where a large number of beer and cider barrels adorned the wall of the impressive room with its beautiful brick work and vaulted ceilings. Conversation and beer flowed happily over the afternoon with everyone enjoying themselves. There was even time for a quick visit to the bar at Liverpool’s Masonic Hall in Hope Street before everyone got back on the coach to Leyland.
The coach trip back was time to hand over to the lodge’s charity steward, Adam Dennett, who skilfully conducted a ‘Chorley Raffle’ raising a fantastic £225 for charity. Carnarvon Lodge’s main charity this year is Holly’s Hearts who help children with cancer by gifting them experiences, gifts and respite breaks to support them through their treatment and create precious memories to treasure forever with their families. There was only one prize that would have been appropriate in this raffle and that, of course, was a copy of the Good Beer Guide 2024!
On arriving safely back in Leyland, the party made their way over to the Stag Inn for part 2 where they met by more Carnarvon Lodge members, brethren, friends and family. Chris had organised chip butties for everyone which, by this time, were greatly received.
It was a truly great day for a dynamic lodge that is going from strength to strength. Their next outing is a visit to De Carteret Lodge No 3459 on the island of Jersey in April, with a lot of members, their partners and other Masons joining the trip already.
Carnarvon Lodge have two new initiates joining in March and April. In April’s meeting the lodge will actually have more light blue members, which is a great feat for any lodge.
