The Intact Centre at Ingol in Preston is a fabulous community hub. It provides a vast range of services for residents in the area. It can be a social hub for many. For others seeking work, there is help to understand the processes as well as providing voluntary roles to develop skills.
A key feature of the hub is the Whitby Pantry. This is a food club which provides low-cost food for a small weekly contribution. This helps to alleviate food insecurity for around 170 families in the Ingol locality. Preston Guild Lodge No 4408 have donated £1,000 worth of groceries to the pantry, including some Christmas items such as mince pies and selection boxes for the children.
Two deliveries have been made to the pantry, the first delivery of selection boxes was made by the master of the lodge, David Parker Jnr, which was very gratefully received by Whitby Pantry staff member Andrew Francis. The second delivery of a bulk grocery order was delivered by members of the lodge David Parker Snr, Mike Grey, Cliff Jones and Paul McKernan.
Some of the selection boxes were used during the Winter Food Festival held at the centre when Father Christmas made an early appearance and delighted all the children present. The remainder, along with mince pies, will be made available to families as a free addition to their shopping.
