Almost 50 companions from across the Fylde Coast gathered in the chapter room at Adelaide Street for a memorable Blackpool Group Joint Convocation on a Friday evening in March 2026. The convocation was hosted by the companions of Blackpool Chapter of Fellowship No 7692.

First principal Brian Rimmer opened the chapter and, with his customary efficiency, swiftly concluded the general business before moving on to the main event of the evening. Chapter director of ceremonies Phil Houldsworth delivered an engaging and thought-provoking presentation entitled; ‘Some Unexplained Features of the Chapter’.
The presentation was brought to life through contributions from companions representing all six Royal Arch chapters within the Blackpool Group. Companions from Bispham with Norbreck Chapter No 4731 were; Matthew Stone, Louie and Garcia. From Blackpool Chapter No 1476 were Darren Clemson and Luke Bodenham. From Blackpool Chapter of Fellowship were; Thomas Cowburn and Thomas Kenyon. From Peace and Unity Chapter No 3966 were; Peter Baldwin and Matthew Baldwin. From Clifton Chapter No 703 were; Peter Smith and Peter Smith. From Blackpool Chapter of Integrity No 5864 Philip Alderson.

Many of those taking part were newly exalted companions, proudly wearing their white ribbons, and had been expertly organised and encouraged by Blackpool Group Vice Chairman and Royal Arch Lead Bob Marsden. The result was a truly impressive and well-coordinated team effort.
The occasion was further distinguished by the presence of grand officers and several senior Provincial officers, including Deputy Grand Superintendent David Barr, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals John Porter, and Stephen Jelly, Blackpool Group Chairman. They were supported by Ryan Modlin, Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies, alongside a number of other acting Provincial Officers: John Topping, Provincial Grand Scribe Nehemiah; Glen Jackson, Provincial Grand Sojourner; John Pitches, Provincial Deputy Grand Sword Bearer; Graham Kenyon, Provincial 2nd Assistant Grand Sojourner; Derek Lewthwaite, Provincial Grand Standard Bearer; Creag Williams, Provincial Grand Steward; Ray Lamb, Provincial Grand Mentor; and Kevin Byrne, Provincial Grand Membership Officer.
It was particularly striking to see the chapter room filled to capacity, creating a wonderful atmosphere that truly embodied the principles of companionship and brotherhood. The energy and enthusiasm in the room were evident throughout the evening. Following the demonstration, which was peppered with some unplanned good humour from all quarters, the companions retired to the dining room for a sumptuous meal filled with laughter and further merriment.

During the festive board and following the traditional toasts, David Barr delivered a thoughtful reply in which he reflected on the journey of new members. He highlighted the ‘all-in-one’ progression through Freemasonry, noting that those joining today can expect a complete pathway of four ceremonies, three within the Craft and one within the Royal Arch, offering a seamless and fulfilling Masonic experience.
The raffle and collection plate raised a phenomenal sum, which will undoubtedly support the spirit of companionship and fellowship through a range of local Masonic and non-Masonic charitable causes. Overall, this was a perfectly executed Joint Convocation, showcasing the strength, unity and dedication of a fantastic team.
