It was a glorious sunny spring day when Goodwill Lodge No 3896 gathered at Widnes Masonic Hall to install Paul Dayus as WM for the coming year. Both the installing master, Rob Smith and Paul were first time masters, so it was a particularly special occasion for both.

Once the lodge was opened in due form and domestic matters dealt with, Steven Kayne, the representative of the Provincial Grand Master Mark Matthews, was admitted and Steven was accompanied by grand officer David Redhead, Vice Chairman of the Mersey Valley Group John Gibbon and acting Provincial Senior Grand Deacon Les Williams.
After formally welcoming Steven to the lodge, the WM presented him with details and cheques of the lodge’s charitable donations amounting to the magnificent sun of £1,650. Beneficiaries included the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity and four other local good causes; Jump, Zoe’s Place, Halton Haven and Reverend Linda’s Foodbank.
What then followed was an exceptional installation conducted by Rob Smith assisted by members of the lodge. Of note were Ben Smith for his explanation of the third degree working tools, fellow craft of the lodge Benn Price for his delivery of the second degree working tools, Scott Gorman for his delivery of the first degree working tools and lodge secretary John Horn for his address to the WM Paul Dayus. All participating brethren contributed to an excellent Installation ceremony, efficiently directed by the lodge director of ceremonies Lewis Redhead.
As the business of the evening was completed, the WM Paul Dayus closed the lodge, ably assisted by his officers. The comradery of the festive board was enhanced by Norman Pritchard who delivered the Master’s Song in his usual enthusiastic manner.
At the close of the evening, the WM presented a bouquet of flowers to Steven Kayne for his good lady, for which he thanked the brethren for them, and for such an enjoyable evening.
