The Tyldesley Lodge No 2572 February meeting was an emotionally charged family occasion and Ian Rothwell was delighted to step into the master’s chair to be able to perform the initiation ceremony for his son Carl in to Freemasonry.
Ian worked the ceremony in a very diligent manner, delivering a great ceremony and explaining the various aspects of the first degree. The candidate was very well led around the lodge on his journey into Freemasonry by Andrew McVee and Carl’s delight was evident as he was invested with his entered apprentice apron by senior warden David Peacock.
The lodge mentor Mike Silver delivered the charge after initiation in an exemplary manner. With the initiation ceremony complete, the brethren retired to the social board which followed in the usual enjoyable manner of the lodge. The toast to the candidate was given by his father and proposer Ian, who thanked the lodge’s WM John Battersby for the opportunity to perform the ceremony for his son.
Carl responded most eloquently giving particular thanks to Andrew McVee as the junior deacon for the guidance he gave during his several perambulations around the lodge room.
Mike then sang the Visitor’s Song after proposing the toast to the visitors and the evening was closed with all the members present singing Happy to Meet, Sorry to Part and Auld Lang Syne.
