David Banks, a member of Makerfield Lodge No 2155 in the Leigh Group, was exalted as a companion into Royal Arch Masonry in a fine display of Royal Arch ritual by the companions of Makerfield Chapter No 2155.
Present at the convocation to witness the ceremony were; Deputy Grand Superintendent Chris Butterfield, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Malcolm Alexander, Dr David Case, group chairman Jonathan Heaton and David Robinson acting Provincial Grand Steward and the many visitors who appreciated the ceremony. David Boyes, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, also did an excellent job for the recession and of organising the social board.
The companions of the chapter had put in a great deal of practice to ensure that David had the best ceremony they could give. A special commendation was given to the acting principal sojourner and acting first principle, John Thompson and Ian Boardman respectively, who were both exemplary throughout. Arthur Jolley also stood in for the third principle who unfortunately was unable attend the meeting, Arthur did a wonderful commendable job at such short notice.
David gave a really good account of himself as he always does in his Craft lodge, as throughout the ceremony he was obviously paying particular attention to John with his guidance of those difficult perambulations and listening to the words of the first principle that inspired him so much.
David was then finally presented with his new regalia, obviously showing the biggest smile of sheer delight at becoming a companion of the order which he said later was an experience above and beyond his expectations. The conclave was then closed by its first principal David Eccles in peace and harmony.
At the social board, the three principals were processed in followed by the other dignitaries, after which they were treated to a three-course meal. Eventually, Chris stood up to commend the hospitality he and the visitors had received throughout the special occasion and how pleased he was with the enhanced version of the ceremony, paying particular attention to the new companion David Banks.
