The walls of North Meols Chapter No 5828 resonated with the spirit of companionship and tradition during its March 2026 convocation. In a ceremony marked by both solemnity and high distinction, the chapter welcomed new members into the Royal Arch, further strengthening the bonds of the Craft in the Province.

The evening began promptly, opened by the three principals: Paul Dwan, first principal, Kevin Ruane MBE, second principal and Jeremy Williams, third principal. The chapter was honoured by the presence of the Grand Superintendent, Mark Francis Matthews. In a gesture of true Masonic humility and warmth, Paul offered the sceptre of the first principal to Mark who graciously returned it, expressing his desire to enjoy a relaxing evening among the companions.
The highlight of the convocation was the exaltation of David Collins and his son Jakob Collins. While originally intended as a triple exaltation, the third candidate, Joshua Collins, (David’s other Son), was unable to attend due to professional relocation; the chapter looks forward to his future exaltation in due course.
The ritual was a collaborative masterpiece, featuring narrations by Paul Hardman and an insightful explanation of the signs by Phil Arson. Following their exaltation, the new companions were greeted by Richard Alty, the chapter mentor, and John Selley, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals, who provided guidance for their future journey in the Royal Arch.
During the first rising, though there were no direct communications from Supreme Grand Chapter, Mark rose to share joyous news regarding John Selley’s promotions. The chapter erupted in spontaneous acclamation as Mark congratulated John on his preferment to Grand Chapter with the rank of Past Grand Standard Bearer, as well as his preferment in Grand Lodge with the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies.

John thanked the companions, noting what a profound honour it was to receive these two accolades. Mark then personally congratulated every member who contributed to the floor work. He offered a special word of thanks to Scribe Ezra Geoff Jackson for the exceptional hard work and dedication required to ensure the chapter operates with such seamless efficiency. Following this the grand and Provincial grand officers retired from the chapter.
As the evening drew to a close, the fourth rising brought important news for the future of North Meols Chapter and reminding the companions of an upcoming emergency convocation on 12 May 2026. This special meeting will feature a double exaltation ceremony for Mark Cunningham and Daniel Cornish. All companions are encouraged to attend and show their support for these two candidates as they take their next steps in Freemasonry.
