In March 2026, the Southport Group held its annual Masters and First Principals Festival, bringing together over 90 brethren and companions for a night that perfectly balanced tradition, wit and immense generosity.

The group was delighted to welcome their guest of honour, Kevin Peter Poynton, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master for the Province of West Lancashire. The festive board was a triumph, featuring a fantastic three-course meal prepared by chef Phil Rayment and his team.
In a wonderful display of Masonic service, the members of Perfect Ashlar Lodge No 5246 acted as stewards, ensuring that no glass went unfilled and the evening flowed seamlessly. The room was filled with camaraderie as members from various lodges, chapters and social groups mingled and forged new friendships. A highlight of the formal proceedings included a toast from Peter MacPhail, WM of Southport Lodge No 4034, who delivered a ‘This Is Your Life’ style tribute to Kevin Poynton. Kevin responded in his usual manner, keeping the brethren on their toes with his trademark quick wit and humour.

The true heartbeat of the evening was the presentation of charity cheques. Collectively, the lodges, social groups and individual brethren of Southport proved that Freemasonry remains a powerful force for good in the wider community. A staggering total of £11,450 was raised and distributed.
While some funds were directed to Masonic causes, a significant portion was donated to local organisations with special meaning to the brethren in the room, including; 281 Southport Squadron Air Cadets, Southport Offshore Rescue, Southport Soup Kitchen, Mountain Rescue, Chelsea Pensioners, Queenscourt Hospice, Rainbow Hub and many more.
Following a thunderous round of applause, Southport Group Chairman Phil Stock thanked those in attendance. He reminded the brethren how special Southport Freemasonry is, affirming that even in trying times, the group stands strong and is truly thriving.
The guest of honour and various senior guests were presented with tokens of appreciation for both themselves and their wives. The evening concluded in the capable hands of Alan Taylor, who delivered a heartfelt and word-perfect tyler’s toast.
