At the March meeting, the brethren of Ainsdale Samaritan Lodge No 4342 gathered to witness a cornerstone moment in their history, the initiation of their newest member. The lodge, which continues to enjoy a period of steady growth, was opened in due form by the master, Ivan Guy.

Proceedings began on a solemn note as Ivan shared the poignant news that Joseph Pender had departed to the Grand Lodge above. In a display of fraternal respect, the brethren observed a short moment of reflection to honour his memory and his contribution to the Craft.
Following this tribute, a report at the door announced that a candidate sought admission. The treasurer, Chris Hindle, briefly retired to ensure all preliminary matters were in order. Upon his return, Bernard Tague was admitted into the temple. He was guided through the degree of his initiation with expert precision by the junior deacon, Callum Gillett, whose conduct of the floorwork was noted by all present.
Once the ceremony of initiation was complete, the newly made brother, Bernard Tague, was presented with a comprehensive explanation of the working tools of an entered apprentice Freemason, delivered with great clarity by Mike Killingbeck. The ritual reached its peak when, following a brief retirement, Bernard Tague returned to the lodge to hear a superb rendition of the Ancient Charge, presented by Chris Gayton.
Before the lodge was closed, the brethren proved their commitment to charity with a collection, and greetings were warmly received from the many visiting brethren who had travelled to support the evening’s labour. The transition from labour to refreshment was marked by a vibrant festive board. The evening’s celebrations were highlighted by a traditional serenade for the new brother, performed by Rick Gillett and accompanied by the guest organist, Neil Walsh.
The spirit of the evening was further exemplified by the raffle and collection, which raised over £200 for worthy causes. Looking ahead, Ainsdale Samaritan Lodge prepares for a momentous occasion in April. The upcoming meeting will feature a rare and special initiation, where the candidate will be brought into the Craft by both his father and grandfather. For further information regarding the lodge or to book a place at the next meeting, interested brethren are encouraged to contact the lodge secretary.
