The Chorley and Leyland Group Christmas service once again brought festive cheer, this year’s Sunday service was held at St James Church in Leyland. This annual carol service has become a highlight of the Masonic calendar, and the group did not disappoint at this year’s gathering, offering a perfect blend of tradition and seasonal joy for the Freemasons, non-Masons and families attending.
This years’ service was hosted by Fr Mark Wolverson of Leyland St Andrews Lodge No 7391. Readers from lodges and chapters across the group participated, including group chairman David Bishop and Fr Matthew McMurray Provincial Deputy Grand Chaplain, while the congregation enthusiastically joined in singing a selection of much-loved Christmas carols and songs. The resounding harmonies and festive atmosphere reminded everyone of the magic the Christmas season brings.
After the service, everyone enjoyed refreshments, including mulled wine that proved to be a seasonal favourite. Children were thrilled to meet Father Christmas himself, who not only handed out selection boxes but also brought smiles to the faces of attendees young and old. A particularly heartwarming moment came when Father Christmas posed for photos with Chorley and Leyland group Chairman David Bishop and Preston Group Chairman John Rimmer.
Also present at the service was Assistant Provincial Grand Master Peter Lockett and Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Paul Hesketh, both expressed their thanks for everyone who attended and took part in the service.
As the afternoon concluded, attendees couldn’t help but reflect on the joy of coming together to celebrate the season. The Chorley and Leyland Group is already eagerly anticipating next year’s Christmas service, scheduled to take place again at St James Church on Sunday 14 December 2025. Mark your calendars; we can’t wait to see you there!
