For a meeting of Carnarvon Lodge No 2376, they teamed up with The Corinthian Club (Chorley and Leyland’s light blue club) and Eric Kos, an experienced and knowledgeable Freemason from Astley and Ellesmere Lodge No 730, for an interactive talk entitled ‘Lessons of the First Degree’.
The event was publicised to all the light blue clubs in West Lancashire and visitors from Warrington and the Fylde groups were in attendance to support the event. Members of Carnarvon Lodge opened the lodge after welcoming their visitors and then they handed the reigns over to Eric Kos for his presentation, after attending to some special business first.
Following a successful ballot, grand officer and Provincial Grand Membership Officer Neil Ward joined Carnarvon Lodge as a new joining member. Members of Carnarvon Lodge later commented that they were honoured and delighted to have Neil join their lodge. The lodge now has 24 members with 12 light blue members and a full ladder of light blue officers with an average age of 58.
Eric started his talk, stripping the first degree ceremony right back and delving into the history and hidden meanings of the initiation ceremony, even highlighting quirks of the degree that happen in different lodges in UK and Scotland. As part of the talk, Eric had the Carnarvon Lodge members act out the movements within the ceremony, stopping at each point to discuss what and why something had happened. This interaction with the lodge was brilliant and really engaged all the Carnarvon Lodge members and their visitors.
When the presentation ended, Eric received a great round of applause and thanks, with even other experienced Masons commenting on the fantastic detail and execution of the talk.
The lodge was closed, and everyone made their way downstairs for a lively and friendly festive board, with the visiting light blue clubs asking Eric for his details so they can invite him to give his talk in their group.
Carnarvon lodge have their installation on 9 December, which is expected to be a very busy event. If you would like to book in, please contact Graham Roberts via graham.sec2376@gmail.com
