Chapter of Liverpool No 292 was consecrated in 1842 and remains one of the oldest in the Province. The chapter moved into Liverpool Masonic Hall, Hope Street in 1858 the year the hall was officially opened. Officiating at their first convocation within their new home, back in 1858, was Joshua Walmsley who was one of the founding members of the hall. With 167 years of proud and faithful service to Royal Arch Masonry, the chapter continues to thrive today, and 20 companions witnessed a most sincere and thoroughly enjoyable ceremony of installation.

The chapter celebrated its installation convocation within the beautiful Egyptian Suite at Liverpool Masonic Hall. In attendance as the representative of the Grand Superintendent Mark Matthews was the Chairman of the Liverpool Group Dave Johnson. Dave was accompanied by Bob Paterson, group vice chairman, as the group representative. Also present was Peter Connolly who will be celebrating 60 years outstanding service to Royal Arch Masonry on 15 May 2025.
John McKenna was installed as first principal and Peter Darlington as third principal. The second principal elect was not able to be present due to personal circumstances. The director of ceremonies Phil Pattullo did a superb job overseeing the proceedings.
After the ceremony, the chapter provided details of a £500 donation they had made to the Friends of Tithebarn. Dave thanked the companions for their generosity assuring them that this money would be faithfully applied and gratefully received. Dave also brought the congratulations on behalf of the Grand Superintendent Mark Matthews.
The festive board was most convivial with a very lively atmosphere. The food was of the highest quality, and more than a few cheering glasses were raised! In response to the toast to grand officers, Dave added his own personal congratulations to the newly installed first principal John McKenna. Dave mentioned recruitment, retention and retrieval whilst noting that the chapter must be doing things in the right way as they had two exaltees in the pipeline.
He recommended that companions visit the ‘Archway’ portal on the Provincial Website and spoke of the importance of ensuring that all new exaltees should be nurtured to make sure they fully enjoy their journey in Royal Arch Masonry. He again thanked the companions, on behalf of the Friends of Tithebarn, for the very generous donation, they do incredible work in the community as well as on behalf of those Masons who reside there. The most enjoyable evening was concluded by the janitor’s toast.
