When the brethren of Phoenix Lodge No 1730, that meets in Urmston in the Province of West Lancashire, made the difficult decision to close their lodge, they had to determine the fate of the remaining lodge funds. After some deliberation, it was decided to support a local children’s charity.

It was decided to support the Little Green Socks Project, a dedicated group of local people who strongly believe that all children should have the basics they need to thrive. With their current premises set for demolition and no affordable alternative yet available, they need immense support to raise £200,000 to enable them to secure a new home and continue providing essential items to over 1,000 children annually.
A spokesperson for the charity stated: “Children outgrow their clothes so quickly, and there are more than enough clothes to go around! Little Socks harnesses the support of the local community to collect items that are no longer needed, sorts them to ensure they are of good quality, and gifts them to those who need them most, from one family to another.”
The charity works with referral partners who are professionals already supporting families in financial crisis, such as health visitors, foodbanks, domestic violence refuge, who refer families to Little Green Socks for support during a difficult time for them.
Lodge mentor Graham Jackson and secretary Wallace Fraser attended a presentation to deliver a cheque for £800 to Jen, a member of the Little Green Socks team, in the hope that some good would come out of the closure of their lodge.
