Southport Masons once again turned out in force for the Christmas Carol Service. The service was once again held at the beautiful Lord Street West United Reform Church, the service was made extra special by brethren attending in full regalia, for which special dispensation had been provided.
At the request of the group executive, those taking part in the procession first met at Southport Masonic Hall on Duke Street, in order to change into their regalia. That being done they were formed into a strong and impressive column, marching the short distance from the Masonic Hall to the church. It must be said, they made a most impressive sight with Masons wearing Craft or Royal Arch regalia according to their preferences.
Marching in firm step, they entered the church to proud glances from their fellow brethren, friends and family. The church service proper then began with musical support provided by Marshside Brass Band, who once again gave up their Sunday to add an extra layer of grandeur to an already festive afternoon.
The service then proceeded in traditional style, with regalia clad brethren taking the pulpit as well as the Nave. This included Assistant Provincial Grand Master David Thomas, who made the special effort to come to Southport in order to contribute personally to the festivities. Once the service had been concluded, the brethren marched out in good order. Afterwards many brethren retired to Southport Masonic Hall for refreshments laid on by the hall manager Darren Boyd-Preece, who had opened specially for the event.
The entire event was organised by the exceptional Steve Booth, who once again did the town proud with the way he promoted and organised the event. Thanks, must also go to Marshside Brass Band for their continuing exceptional support, Darren Boyd-Preece for looking after the brethren at the hall before and after the event, and of course, the Lord Street West United Reform Church for once again allowing the use of their beautiful venue.
