Brethren of Makerfield Lodge No 2155 in Leigh, held their annual Ladies to Dine, at which there was over 40 attendees with a total of 6 tables which worked out just fine. On this particular evening of the month, after its annual installation with many new officers in their new roles, the lodge was opened with a particular brand of humour and excitement. No doubt, due to the Christmas spirit and the hard work the lodge had put in throughout the year, with a full calendar and several double ceremonies, this was David Bridge’s first time at opening and closing the lodge and all went smoothly.
After all the business had been conducted, the lodge was closed in peace and harmony. Then, being in the quickest time ever, the furniture was removed, put in the cupboards as though it was a race to meet up with their own families and friends.
Phil Kearns kept the many guests entertained at the bar area, as he was going to host the event as the evening progressed. The main meal was of three courses, being a traditional roast turkey dinner with a salmon option, with a great choice of desserts, the favourite as always was the Christmas pudding.
The main toast of the evening was the loyal toast, after which the entertainment began. Phil had the ladies doing all manner of things waving their hands about, but all in good fun which brought much laughter, there was a prize draw where everybody received a prize.
For the first time in many years, the brethren decided to do its own choir. No practice was done prior, only the carol sheet was given on the night, they sang many carols, to the surprise of themselves and the guests it went down really well with a great cheer and applause from the guests. All in all, a wonderful start to the Christmas period with a well-earned rest for the brethren.
