Nearly 100 Masons, family and friends attended the first Chorley and Leyland Group Bavarian Night. As the room quickly filled with guests, laughter could be heard all around the room, due to the various fancy-dress outfits which were on display. It was great to see so many people making a fantastic effort to get dressed up for the event, however traditional or comedic.
The show was soon on the way, with excellent entertainment from the Parpenrifters Bierkeller Band who had the crowd swaying side to side with their beer steins in the air and partaking in some drinking songs. A popular tipple for the evening was the groups very own ‘Gruppenbier’ that was organised with the brewery specially for the event.
After a range of songs from the band, accompanied by comedy comparing from the band’s conductor, the first half was over and it was time for the eagerly anticipated food. A fantastic bockwurst sausage and dips, with plenty of sauerkraut, together with spiced potatoes, and all finished off with apple strudel and custard.
With all the guests suitably refreshed, it was time for the second half of the bands set with audience participation being very high on the conductors list. This section of the evening led to hilarious antics, with several high-ranking officers taking to floor, but to respect their dignity, a story for another day maybe, or join us for the next event.
The evening came to an end with a charity raffle which raised over £300. Everyone left with a smile on their face and looking forward to meeting again next year. A big thank you to Suzanna Matthews, Gary Matthews and Nick Medway for organising and hosting the event which was a massive success.
Look out for future group events and there are plenty of Christmas events already planned at Brookfield Hall so please check them out on Facebook and get involved.
