Companions of Sure and Steadfast Chapter of Temperance and Felicity No 9326 were pleased to exalt into its chapter Jonathan Tyrer. Jonathon is a member of Temple Lodge No 1094, this being the lodge of the first principal John Bruffell and the second principal Christopher Bruffell, father and son.
The exaltation ceremony took place in the very colourful and elegant Egyptian Room at Hope Street Masonic Hall, Liverpool. All the guests were warmly welcomed with a song sheet to help them as the chapter was opened with an accompanying opening hymn.
After the minutes of the previous convocation were read and approved, the next item on the agenda was to ballot for, and if approved, exalt Jonathan to become a companion of the Chapter. The ballot having been approved, John Brufell asked Melvyn Hughes, the principal sojourner, to retire and entrust the candidate for his exaltation.
When he returned Jonathon was admitted, and a friendly and sincere ceremony took place, presided over by the first and second principal and Mark Rawsthorn, who took the chair of third principal. The second part of the ceremony saw assistance given for the ceremony by David Crowley.
Following the completion of all the chapter business, the chapter was closed, including reference to the song sheet for the closing hymn. All the companions then retired to the dining room to enjoy the friendly atmosphere at the festive board.
At the festive board, all the companions and guests made Jonathan very welcome, and after the toast to the newly exalted companion, Jonathan replied with an equally welcoming response, saying how he was looking forward to taking part in future ceremonies in the chapter, much to the delight of the companions. Prior to the final toast of the evening, the Boys Brigade song was sung.
