The 1938 (Salford City & Eccles) Squadron ATC wanted to have their own marching drum band for special occasions like Remembrance Sunday, but due broken drums and not enough drums they put out an appeal for help.
Brethren of Egerton Worsley Lodge No 1213 from the Trafford Group responded to the appeal and the brethren (several of them either being cadets in their youth or members of the RAF) decided to give a donation from their benevolent fund through the Eccles Charitable Trust to help the cadets march to a new beat (drum beat that is).
Members of Egerton Worsley, Colin Latimer, Paul Webster and Liam Hargraves met with the Squadron Leaders at Eccles RAF Cadets, Sergeant L Masters, Flight Officer C Lee and Corporal A Lee and handed them a cheque for £2,000 in the hope that the cadets and future cadets can be part of the Salford and Eccles Squadron Drum Band.
