Well, what a beautiful day for this event, held at The Park Club, Cleveleys. Good play was assured by the excellent condition of this well-tended crown green. With 16 entrants taking part, including the group chairmen and various members from each group.
It was a very enjoyable day, with the sun taking its role to fine affect, although there were some worrying dark clouds occasionally. The format of the day was on a round robin basis, two groups of eight players, each playing three games in their group. The top two players from each group advancing to the semi-finals, the winners of which progressed to the final.
The two semi-finals were contested by Keith Carter of New Sanctuary Lodge No 6604 against Stuart Brown of Royal Oak Lodge No 5919. Then Dex Wilde of West Lancashire Century Lodge No 2349 against Robert Stafford of Anchorsholme Lodge No 5854. These games were very entertaining and played in a fine spirit. They gave way to a final, between Keith Carter and Robert Stafford.
The final was a very close and cagey affair between two very good contestants. The winner, not for the first time, being Keith Carter by a slight margin of 21-19. Keith has for several years been one of the organisers of this event, assisted by other members of the Bowling Committee.
The day concluded with a buffet, raffle and prize giving, in The Park Club’s comfortable lounge. Trophies were presented by Assistant Provincial Grand Master Duncan Smith and Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals John Robbie Porter. The raffle raised £185 for charities.
As ever, this event was enjoyed by players and spectators alike and many stayed behind afterwards for the relaxation and social get together which always follows a fine afternoon on and around the green.
