Companions of Chapter of Hope No 2679 celebrated with John Hutton his 50 years as a Royal Arch Mason. John was exalted into Chapter of Hope on 26 April 1974 and was able to celebrate his 50 years on the same date this year, 2024.
First principal Paul Newton opened the convocation with all present in the room and after the dispensation to hold the meeting on the fourth Friday instead of the second was read, the minutes of the last convocation were confirmed. Assistant to the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies David Boyes, escorted John from his customary place at the organ to the east and sat him in the chair of the first principal. Eccles Group Vice Chairman Patrick Walsh read the certificate from the Grand Superintendent Mark Matthews and Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals John Murphy then presented it to John.
Colin Rowling, Past Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals outlined Johns Masonic career which included being Second Provincial Grand Principal of the Province of West Lancashire and the chapter gave John much deserved applause.
Once all of the chapter business had been completed, the chapter closed and after photographs, the companions joined the ladies and guests for the festive board.
Following the meal, Colin Rowling went into greater details about John, his upbringing and his contribution to science in his chosen field. John was also presented with a 50-year lapel pin by the group vice chairman. John thanked all present for their kind applause and for being with him and his wife Anthea on this special night.
