Scott Devine, Chairman of Lancaster Group, was installed as master of Plantagenet Lodge of Installed Masters No 9357 in the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand Master Peter Schofield. Peter was accompanied by grand officers Peter Mason, Phil Gardner, John Robson, John Lee, Neil McGill and Paul Broadley.
Lancaster Group Vice Chairman Chris Larder was also present and he was joined by Provincial Senior Grand Warden Michael Tax, Provincial Senior Grand Deacon Tony Jackson, Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies Larry Branyan and Morton Richardson with Provincial Grand Stewards Andy McClements and Phil Renney. Acting as Provincial Grand Deacons were Roger Nevinson and Brian Stoddart. Scott’s personal guests from Caledonia Lodge No 392 were the master of the lodge Bob Mitchell and William Innes.
The lodge was opened by WM Alan Procter who conducted the installation ceremony together with director of ceremonies Steve Jennings. The installing officers were; senior warden Paul Mason, junior warden John Bates and inner guard Daniel Crossley. The master elect was presented for installation by Neil McGill.
Once the master and officers had been installed, the third degree working tools were presented by Paul Mason, the second degree working degree tools Paul Taylor and the first degree working tools by Ken Robinson. The WM appointed John Holmes as senior warden and John Eccles as junior warden. The address to the master was given by Alan Procter, the address to the wardens by Daniel Crossley and the address to the brethren of Plantagenet Lodge by Peter Schofield.
After all the work in the lodge had been completed, a total of 74 brethren attended the festive board, where the toast to the WM was given by Neil Hartley.
Scott Devine was born in Cottam, Preston in September 1969 His parents were Hugh and Marjorie who are both now sadly deceased. He has one sister Colette. He attended Lee Endowed Primary School and then Broughton High School, both in Preston.
From a young age, Scott has had an interest in motorcycles and had his first motorcycle aged 9. He played rugby at school and then later for Preston Grasshoppers and North Lancashire but stopped when he started work. Scott enjoys car rallying (navigating and car preparation) which replaced rugby as his hobby. When not engaged in Freemasonry, Scott enjoys touring on his motorcycle and racing as a spectator.
He worked as an engineering apprentice at British Nuclear Fuels Ltd (now Westinghouse) from 1986-1990 and he still works there 38 years later as engineering foreman. Scott married Karan in 2004 who also (thankfully) enjoys motorcycles and rugby. He has a stepdaughter Rachael and three grandchildren Lillyanna 11, Lacey seven and Kainan four.
Scott was initiated on 9 May 2007 at Great Eccleston Lodge No 8895 where he was proposed by an old school friend. He was passed on 12 September 2007 and raised on 12 December 2007. Scott was WM of Great Eccleston Lodge in 2012 and joined Plantagenet Lodge of Installed Masters in 2014. He received his first appointment as a Provincial Grand Steward in 2015 and joined Quingenti Lodge No 8516 that year.
In 2018, Scott became an honorary member of Caledonian Lodge (Scottish Constitution), which meets next to Murrayfield, which he started visiting and following Scotland rugby matches. In 2022 Scott joined Lilford Lodge of Motorcyclists No 3022. In 2023 Scott was promoted to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden.
Scott was exalted into Royal Arch on 16 January 2012 in Great Eccleston Chapter No 8895 and was first principal in 2019. He currently holds the rank of Past Provincial Grand Sword Bearer. He is also a member of another Masonic Order.
His work with the Lancaster Group started in 2014 as social secretary, becoming group secretary in 2016, group vice chairman in 2018 and was appointed group chairman in 2023.
